Kapitel 10

1 Die Philister6430 stritten3898 wider Israel3478. Und376 die von Israel3478 flohen5127 vor den Philistern, und6430 fielen5307 die Erschlagenen2491 auf6440 dem Berge2022 Gilboa.

2 Aber die Philister6430 hingen sich1692 an Saul7586 und310 seine Söhne1121 hinter310 ihnen her und6430 schlugen5221 Jonathan3129, Abinadab41 und Malchisua4444, die Söhne1121 Sauls7586.

3 Und der Streit4421 ward3513 hart wider Saul7586; und die Bogenschützen7198 kamen an ihn, daß er3384 von den Schützen3384 verwundet ward4672.

4 Da sprach559 Saul7586 zu seinem Waffenträger3627: Zeuch dein Schwert8025 aus und erstich1856 mich damit, daß diese Unbeschnittenen6189 nicht5375 kommen935 und schändlich mit mir umgehen. Aber5953 sein Waffenträger3627 wollte14 nicht5375; denn er fürchtete3372 sich5307 sehr3966. Da nahm3947 Saul7586 sein Schwert2719 und fiel drein.

5 Da aber sein4191 Waffenträger5375 sah7200, daß Saul7586 tot war, fiel5307 er auch ins Schwert2719 und starb4191.

6 Also starb4191 Saul7586 und seine drei7969 Söhne1121 und sein4191 ganzes Haus1004 zugleich3162.

7 Da aber die Männer Israels3478, die im Grunde6010 waren4191, sahen7200, daß sie5800 geflohen5127 waren935, und376 daß Saul7586 und seine Söhne1121 tot waren, verließen sie3427 ihre Städte5892 und flohen5127; und die Philister6430 kamen und wohneten drinnen.

8 Des andern4283 Morgens kamen935 die Philister6430, die Erschlagenen2491 auszuziehen6584, und fanden4672 Saul7586 und seine Söhne1121 liegen5307 auf dem Berge2022 Gilboa1533;

9 und zogen6584 ihn aus7971 und huben auf5375 sein Haupt7218 und seine Waffen3627 und sandten es ins Land776 der Philister6430 umher5439 und ließen‘s verkündigen1319 vor ihren Götzen6091 und dem Volk5971;

10 und legten7760 seine Waffen3627 ins Haus1004 ihres Gottes430, und seinen Schädel1538 hefteten sie8628 an das Haus1004 Dagons1712.

11 Da aber alle die zu8085 Jabes in Gilead1568 höreten alles, was die Philister6430 Saul7586 getan6213 hatten,

12 machten sie sich auf6965, alle streitbaren2428 Männer, und376 nahmen5375 den Leichnam Sauls7586 und seiner Söhne1121 und brachten935 sie gen Jabes3003 und begruben6912 ihre Gebeine6106 unter der Eiche424 zu Jabes3003; und fasteten6684 sieben7651 Tage3117.

13 Also starb4191 Saul7586 in seiner Missetat4604, die er wider den HErrn3068 getan hatte4603 an dem Wort1697 des HErrn3068, das er nicht hielt8104, auch daß er die Wahrsagerin178 fragte7592

14 und fragte1875 den HErrn3068 nicht; darum tötete4191 er ihn5437 und wandte das Königreich4410 zu David1732, dem Sohn1121 Isais3448.

Chapter 10

1 NOW the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and many fell slain on mount Gilboa.

2 And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan and Jeshui and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers who were skilled in shooting with bows found him; and when Saul saw them, he was sore afraid of them.

4 Then Saul said to his armourbearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, before these uncircumcised come and slay me and torment me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

5 And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on his sword, and died with him.

6 So Saul died and his three sons and his armourbearer, and all his mighty men died on that day together.

7 And when all the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley and on the other side of the Jordan saw that Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were slain, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa.

9 And they cut off their heads, stripped them of their armour, and sent them to the land of the Philistines, throughout the towns and cities and provinces to carry the good tidings to their idols and to their people;

10 And they put their garments and their armour in the house of their idols, and hanged their bodies by the wall of Beth-jashan.

11 Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

12 They arose, all the valiant men, and went all the night, and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-jashan, and brought them to Jabesh and burned them there; then they took their bones and buried them under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

13 So Saul died because of the transgression which he committed against the LORD, and because of the command of the LORD, which he kept not,

14 And also because he consulted men who had familiar spirits, and did not inquire of the LORD his God. Therefore his kingdom was given to David the son of Jesse.
